History of Non-Invasive Electronic Acupuncture

1982

After five years study of global acupuncture treatment methods, including extensive acupuncture practice at his clinic on North Terrace, Adelaide, South Australia, Dr Richards observed several facts.

  1. His method consisted of point location with a potentiometer, needle insertion of various length, then electrical stimulation by means of a common stimulator.

  2. He began using needles of shorter and shorter length until finally using only ½" needles inserted to a depth of ¼"

  3. The conclusion became obvious that acupuncture points were superficial and the needle acted only as a means of conducting electrical stimulation to the area of the point.

  4. It had already been demonstrated that acupuncture points were minute areas on the skin, and having a larger number of nerve endings than the surrounding skin.

  5. The fact that these acupuncture points could be accurately located by a potentiometer, and, having a lower electrical resistance, it followed that they were more receptive to the intake of electrical transmission, it followed that accurate location and stimulation would be an effective means of adjusting the resistance in these points to obtain the effect of acupuncture.

  6. The Chinese had already based the success of acupuncture on the fact that bodily health was controlled by harmonious electrical energy flow via the meridians, flowing through acupuncture points which provided harmonious resistances.

Irregularity in resistances of various points caused an interrupted energy flow, producing health problems in areas or organs associated with those acupuncture points.
  7. The Chinese had their methods of normalizing any irregular acupuncture point resistances, such as slow insertion, rapid extraction of needles, twisting clockwise or anticlockwise, etc.
  8. However, it appeared to Dr Richards that since the problem was electrical excess or deficit in a point, the most logical method to adjust this, was to either reduce, or increase the electrical energy in these points.

    1984
  9. With the help of electronic engineers and industrial designers he developed his first device "Acuhealth" which combined point location, and stimulation to appropriate acupuncture points by the small battery operated hand held device.

Dr Richards then compiled a manual indicating points to be treated for a variety of health conditions for which he had noted success in his acupuncture clinic treatments.

1985

The Acuhealth device was placed on the market. The refinements being:

  1. A sensitivity control dial to adjust to various skin resistances.
  2. A tonify/disperse switch which reversed current flow to appropriately adjust electrical energy in a point.
  3. A search phase to locate points, with a switch to transfer to a treatment phase once located.

1985-1990

Over this period the successes and failures of the Acuhealth were studied and adverse reports noted, especially lack of stimulation strength.

Also programs were added to the manual as they were requested.

1991

The result of this was the appearance on the market of Dr Dean Richards' significantly improved device "ACUPLUS" accompanied by his latest up to date manual "SIMPLE HEALTH MAINTENANCE".

This combination provided an effective means of successfully treating any of the health conditions responding to acupuncture, including some of those previously resistance to the low powered previously available devices.

'SIMPLE HEALTH MAINTENANCE" has been accepted as a "Bible" of self-treatment acupuncture treatment programs available, and the ACUPLUS as the most advance of it's kind.

1995 -->

  1. Scientific reports have appeared proving the effect of acupuncture:

    a) in normalizing endorphin levels

    b) in normalizing serotonin levels

    c) in normalizing dopamine levels
  2. Other reports have demonstrated:

    a) Low endorphin levels are associated with pain.

    b) Low serotonin levels are associated with obesity, depression, ADHD and many other chronic conditions.

    c) Low dopamine levels are associated with depression and cognisant problems of the aged such as Altzhiemers.

Just search the Internet on endorphin, serotonin and dopamine and any of these facts will appear.

Year 2000

The present position is that:

  1. Dr Dean Richards' latest upgrade of his device "ACUPLUS" is the most effective device for acupuncture point stimulation available, combined with his latest manual "SIMPLE HEALTH MAINTENANCE".

The testimonials will attest to this.
  2. In addition to this fact, Dr Richards is freely available on Email to respond to any queries specifically directed to either his ACUPLUS device or the manual.
